Rams came charging out of the gate Sunday afternoon, controlling the play, pace and momentum from the first drop of the puck. In a most unconventional three on one break, Bake soloed with a blistering slapper from the right wing just over the blue line, beating Blades goalie to the inside far post. Leaving linemates Dean and Bernie to ponder whether their roles had been diminished on the first line.
Bake lit the lamp again with a similar blast from the right side and Bernie took advantage with a short handed bid, closing out the first period with the Rams leading 3-0.
Blades got back in it, shifting momentum in the second, scoring once. But the real story was the penalties. Rams killed off a 5 on 3, and faced six short handed situations to the Blades one, during the evening. Colin manhandled his way into the box twice, once for a defiant tossing of the Blades defenseman to the ground, yes that is a penalty.
Blades pushed the score to 3-2, with a powerplay goal in the 3rd, but with better line changes and less sloppy play, Rams created a host of scoring chances. Shoup lubed up the puck and snuck a wrister from the slot under the goalies right armpit to close out the scoring.
The fourth period proved once again that the Rams are a two case team. Snap fell short on his forecast, or perhaps hadn’t anticipated a 3 line locker room, and a half dozen Ramers convened on Big Headz for a bakers dozen worth of High Life’s, at least that was the count when I left.
Don’t get on the rookie, Flood got the report submitted in good time. There was a registration problem with the site this morning that had me behind in uploading it.
