Ex-Islanders co-owner gets 12 years

A former co-owner of the New York Islanders was sentenced to 12 years in prison Thursday in a $400 million accounting fraud scandal at one of the world’s largest software companies. Sanjay Kumar, the 44-year-old former chief executive of Computer Associates International, pleaded guilty in April to obstruction of justice and securities fraud charges at the company, which since has become known as CA Inc.

Malkin earns rookie honours

The accolades continued for Evgeni Malkin on Thursday as the Pittsburgh Penguins forward was named the NHL’s rookie of the month.
Malkin finished the month of October scoring nine points in five games, despite having his NHL debut delayed by a dislocated shoulder he suffered in his first pre-season game.

Ovechkin or Phaneuf?

To commemorate the first NHL meeting between Washington’s Alexander Ovechkin and Calgary’s Dion Phaneuf, Canadian Press posed the following question:
“If you had to choose between flashy Washington Capitals winger Alexander Ovechkin and the hard-driving Calgary Flames defenceman Dion Phaneuf, who would you pick?”
