Flyers give Hitchcock a pro-scouting job

Ken Hitchcock has a new job, a temporary position while he looks for another head coaching job in the NHL. Flyers interim general manager Paul Holmgren hired the team’s former coach yesterday as a pro scout. Hitchcock will scout teams and players the club might be interested in trading for, but will not be an advance scout per se.

Campbell says no; Holmgren still GM

Paul Holmgren has been upfront about the fact he would like to see the term “interim” dropped from his job title. But the Flyers apparently are not ready to do that yet, as evidenced by the fact the team chairman Ed Snider offered NHL executive vice president Colin Campbell the general manager’s job when Bob Clarke resigned.

Today, the Flyers assigned defenseman Lars Jonsson and reassigned defenseman Alexandre Picard to the Philadelphia Phantoms.

Flyers face the Lightning tonight

The Philadelphia Flyers concluded one of their worst months in franchise history with a shutout win, but building on that success may be difficult.
The Flyers look to avoid their 10th straight loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning as the teams meet Thursday at the Wachovia Center.
Philadelphia (3-7-1) is 0-8-1 against Tampa Bay, getting outscored 43-16 since a 4-1 win April 4, 2003. Six of those defeats have come by three or more goals, including a 4-1 loss Oct. 19.
