Paul Maurice hired to guide Maple Leafs back to playoffs

Paul Maurice was hired Friday as coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs, who finished ninth in the Eastern Conference and missed the playoffs the first time since the 1997-98 season.

Tocchet in limbo over alleged acts

With great fanfare, New Jersey law enforcement three months ago accused Coyotes associate coach Rick Tocchet of promoting gambling, money laundering and conspiracy.
During a news conference, the high-profile investigation was dubbed “Operation Slap Shot” because of its alleged ties to the National Hockey League. There also were rumors that the case was connected to organized crime.
But since then, Tocchet still is waiting his day in court.
The New Jersey Attorney General’s Office has yet to obtain an indictment, and officials there are mum on when – or if – Tocchet will be charged with a crime.
