Honest Jagr rejects 53rd goal in Rangers’ win

Jaromir Jagr had no choice but to be honest. He could already see the screaming headlines if he accepted a record-setting goal he knew wasn’t his.
“Cheater,” Jagr portrayed the headlines.
For a few minutes it appeared that Jagr broke Adam Graves’ team record for goals in a season, but in reality he never touched the puck. The goal was changed and given to Martin Straka, who ended up with two Thursday night in the New York Rangers’ 3-1 victory over the New York Islanders.

Stars clinch Pacific title, but lose Modano to knee injury

Mike Modano was in the dressing room getting treatment for an injured left knee while the rest of the Dallas Stars were wrapping up their seventh division title in nine seasons.
Dallas clinched the Pacific Division crown Thursday night with a 5-3 victory over the second-place Anaheim Mighty Ducks. But the accomplishment was tempered somewhat by the injury to the Stars’ captain and leading scorer.

Aebischer shines for Habs

Goaltender David Aebischer gave a glimpse of why Montreal acquired him, keeping his team in the game against the Ottawa Senators on Thursday night before the Canadiens shot their way to a 5-3 win.
