Rendell unveils plan for new Pittsburgh sports arena
Gov. Ed Rendell unveiled his plan for a new Pittsburgh sports arena Thursday, proposing a combination of funding that matches the $290 million offer by a company seeking a state gambling license.
Rendell’s plan to replace the aging Mellon Arena calls for financing by a new state slot machine fund, an annual contribution by whichever company wins Pittsburgh’s casino license, money from the Pittsburgh Penguins and money from naming rights at the new arena.
