Flyers coach Ken Hitchcock would like to take a moment to clarify how his team’s goaltending situation should be classified.
“The thing that bothers me about goaltending situations is that people confuse controversy with competition,” Hitchcock explained prior to last night’s game against New Jersey. “A controversy is when you have two guys who can’t stop the puck. We have exactly the opposite. We have two guys who are really playing well, and that’s a competition.”
Brodeur continued his shootout dominance, stopping all three Flyer shooters he faced, including Forsberg on the final attempt, to clinch a 2-1 Devils’ victory.
The Devils improved to 7-2 in shootouts this season. Brodeur is 6-1 and has allowed only three goals on 26 shots.
