Vancouver Canucks captain Markus Naslund has confirmed that he won’t play for Sweden at the Torino Olympics.
Naslund, who has 24 goals and 31 assists in 52 games this season, cited a lingering groin injury in making his decision.
Detroit Red Wings forward Tomas Holmstrom will replace Naslund, Sweden’s ice hockey federation said Thursday.
Even though it was only practice, Eric Desjardins was grateful to be back on the ice and even more delighted when he got off. “It felt good. I had chances to battle a couple times,” said Desjardins, who has been out since Dec. 6 after right shoulder surgery for a torn labrum. “I went down in the boards a couple of times and felt fine. I’m really happy with it.”
