New Jersey backup goaltendender Scott Clemmensen – filling in for the injured Martin Broduer – gave the Devils a lift as he made 25 saves in Friday`s 3-2 win over visiting Buffalo.
Boston had similar success as backup Hannu Toivonen made 36 saves in place of the injured Andrew Raycroft to lift the Bruins to a 2-1 victory over Toronto on Thursday, the Bruins’ first Northeast Division win of the season.
“He was solid and made timely saves when we needed them,” coach Mike Sullivan said. “If your goaltender is not one of your best players, it is very difficult to win in this league.”
Here’s a more recent preview.
Boston, which had been 0-5-1 in the division, won for just the second time in seven games overall.
