Ottawa Senators star wing Martin Havlat was suspended five games by the NHL for kicking Boston defenseman Hal Gill.
Havlat will lose more than $66,000 for the suspension. He will begin serving the suspension Friday, when Ottawa visits the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Colin Campbell, the NHL director of hockey operations, cited a two-month period during the 2003-04 season when Havlat was disciplined three times in two months, including a two-game suspension for kicking.

Posting will be eratic while web site editor Arthur Etchells performs his civic duty. Questions remain as to how such a shady character was actually selected to serve on a jury. Must truly be a jury of peers.
As the Flyers headed for West Point this afternoon for two days of team bonding, winger Turner Stevenson was already in Nashville, Tenn., where he will undergo surgery tomorrow morning to repair a torn labrum in his right hip.
