Friday Update

NHL considering new goalie jerseys

Eklund Gets Chub Over Pre-season Game

I`ll tell you what…I just went to an incredible hockey game. Yes it was pre-season. a rather blandish Flyers/Devils game…but I saw it….I saw “it.”
I saw that this is going to work. I saw the beginning of the end of the learning curve. I saw players not resorting to obstruction. I saw levels. Levels of talent. The better players were better and you noticed it. Skill was a major factor. I saw the art of hitting make a comeback. Players no longer can hook a guy to slow him down. Instead they have to put a guy into the boards. They have to time it and hit him. THANK GOD!

Devils Do Realize There is a Cap

General manager Lou Lamoriello said yesterday he has decided what he will do to cut more than $4 million from the team’s payroll to get Elias and his $4.18 million salary back on the roster. Of course, he isn’t saying.

Patrick Roy to coach junior team

Former NHL goalie Patrick Roy has taken over as coach of the Quebec Remparts, the junior hockey team he co-owns.
Roy, also the team’s general manager, fired coach Eric Lavigne on Thursday after the Ramparts got off to a 1-4-0 start in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. Lavigne coached the club since the 2002-03 season.
