Today at noon marks the beginning of free agency and it should be a wild time. There are too many rumors to even recount but expect Scott Niedermayer to be cloned and distributed to all 30 teams.
Sabres part ways with Satan
Miroslav Satan became an unrestricted free agent Sunday after the Buffalo Sabres declined to make a qualifying offer to the team’s six-time scoring leader.
The Dallas Stars announced Sunday the re-signing of defenceman Sergei Zubov to a three-year, $12-million US deal.
“He’s got to pick up his skating, but he’s like a young [Rick] Tocchet,” Clarke said. “He’s aggressive, he’s got a nasty streak and he really works. Tocchet was not a very good skater when we first got him, but the guys that work improve, and he works.”
Soon, the NHL will have to decide who its U.S. broadcast partner will be for this season and beyond. Last week, Ted Saskin, the newly promoted executive director of the NHL Players’ Association, said that despite there now being a financial partnership between the players and the league on revenues, the union won’t contest a lower bid for television rights if it is deemed “what’s right for the sport.”
